Family US Visa Appointment in Chennai: Staying Together

Every family member needs their own DS-160 application, including children, so prepare one folder per person and keep the confirmation pages together. Embassy Park has triple rooms at Rs 3,500 and Rs 3,800 per night, a few minutes from the US Consulate General.
Does each family member need a separate application?
Yes. The State Department says you must create an individual DS-160 for each family member or each person in a group. A single application cannot cover a couple or a family, even if everyone is travelling together on the same dates.
For applicants under 16, a parent or guardian may complete the form and sign on the child's behalf. If no parent or guardian is available, someone with legal custody or a legitimate interest may do it. Each person ends up with their own confirmation page and barcode, and the department warns the case may not be processed without it.
How should you organise the paperwork?
Use one plain folder per person, and put the passport, DS-160 confirmation page, appointment confirmation, fee receipt and any supporting papers inside. Write the name on the outside. When the officer calls a name, a child or an elderly parent should not have to search through a shared bundle.
Keep a separate, clearly labelled set of copies in your room. If something is damaged or forgotten, you can fix it with a quick print or a photo from your phone. Also check that each passport has at least six months of validity, since this is listed for the visitor visa and applies to every person in the family.
- One folder per person, name on the cover
- Passport, DS-160 confirmation, appointment letter and receipt in each
- One adult holds the copies and spare passport photos
- Agree a waiting point for anyone who may not be allowed inside
Which room works for three people?
Embassy Park has two triple categories, each with one queen bed and one single bed. The Deluxe Triple is Rs 3,500 per night and the Luxury Triple is Rs 3,800 per night. The Luxury Triple is the most spacious room, with a wardrobe and a TV unit and room to move, which matters when three suitcases and three document folders share the floor.
If you are a couple with one child, either category works. For three adults, the single bed is a reasonable bed for one of you, so decide in advance who takes it. Each room has air conditioning, a work desk, a mini fridge, a tea and coffee maker, free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Rates are per room per night and should be reconfirmed when you book.
What about a family of four or more?
Our rooms take two or three guests, so a family of four will need two rooms. A common way to split is one Deluxe Double for the parents and a second room for the others, or two Deluxe Doubles in the same booking. Ask when you call whether rooms on the same floor are possible rather than assuming it.
A Deluxe Double Twin has two single beds and suits two adults or a parent and a teenager. A Deluxe Double Queen suits a couple. Both are Rs 2,800 per night.
How do you keep the morning calm with children?
Plan to be at the consulate gate a little ahead of your slot, and keep snacks and water in the room because food and drink are commonly not allowed inside visa sections. Check your appointment letter for the current rules. The consulate is at 220 Anna Salai at Gemini Circle, and the hotel is a few minutes away, so there is no long commute to tire children before the interview.
Housekeeping and room service are available, and the reception is open 24 hours with VIP check-in and check-out. That helps if your flight into Chennai lands at an odd hour, though standard check-in is at 2 PM and check-out is at 12 PM.
How do you compare room costs for a family?
A simple comparison helps. For three people, one Luxury Triple at Rs 3,800 per night is lower than two Deluxe Doubles at Rs 2,800 each, which add up to Rs 5,600 before any taxes. The single bed in a triple room works well for a child or a teenager, but may not suit an adult who wants a full night of rest before an interview.
For four people, two rooms are needed. Two Deluxe Doubles cost Rs 5,600 per night in total, and a Deluxe Triple plus a Deluxe Double costs Rs 6,300. These are our rates per room per night and should be reconfirmed, along with applicable taxes, when you book.
Ask the hotel about your dates directly. Call or WhatsApp +91 72007 60076 with the number of adults and children, the dates and the room types you prefer. If your appointments are on different days for different family members, tell the team, because you may want to stay an extra night or keep the room for the whole group until everyone has finished.
